Become a Counselor

Thank you for your interest in Troy Camp! We encourage you to browse the website, look at our pictures, and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

Why should I join Troy Camp?
Troy Camp is a unique opportunity for USC students to form positive relationships with local children. Students help give local children the life-changing experience of a week at summer camp and form lifelong friendships. Join Troy Camp and give these children the opportunity to ride a horse for the first time, hike in the mountains, sleep in a cabin, experience a campfire, and meet new friends. Be a mentor to them, and give them an inspiration to succeed in school and go on to college. Become friends not only with the children, but with a diverse group of counselors who put their heart and soul into this organization.

What can I expect from becoming a member?
We don't expect you to dedicate your life to Troy Camp (although you may find that you'll want to!). We do ask for your attendance at our weekly meetings, a weekend retreat each semester, and bi-monthly kids' events (usually in place of a Tuesday meeting, or on Saturday or Sunday). There are additional events as well, such as fund-raising, committees, and work parties. You certainly don't have to attend every Troy Camp event, but we strongly encourage active, consistent involvement so the kids and counselors can get as much out of the experience as possible. Because our relationship with the kids is the most important part of Troy Camp, the decision as to which members attend camp is based on regular involvement throughout the year. So come to us with a commitment to the program!

How are counselors selected?
Troy Camp is the largest and most diverse student-run philanthropy at USC. Our counselors come from 40 different majors and identify with over 25 ethnicities. What we share is a love for kids and the commitment to friendship that embodies our organization's goal. When reading applications and interviewing applicants, we look for members who share this love for kids, are willing to make a commitment to Troy Camp, and have an enthusiasm for our programs.

When can I join?
Troy Camp takes applications at the beginning of each school year, in early September.

How do I apply?
Download the application here, fill it out, and turn it in to Hazel and Stanley Hall (HSH) at the front desk. Make sure to sign up for an interview! Info sessions will be held at 5:45 pm September 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, and 10. There is also an open meeting at 7pm on September 9th. Meet at Tommy Trojan for all of these events and get excited!
